Many of you guys may remember a post I made back in Feb. when my wife caught a 3.42lb crappie. Well, since then I have been frequently reminded by family and friends that SHE is a member of the 3-Pound club and I'm not. I've even had offers from folks wanting to trade me golf clubs for my fishing equipment. Although I would rather she be the one to achieve such a goal, I have often wondered if I would ever get one myself. My PB is 2.79 but we all know that 3.anythng is the mark we shoot for.
Woke up this morning and reluctantly hooked up the boat due to being tired and the threat of more rain and storms. Launched the boat and parked the truck but still wasn't "feeling" it. First stop, first cast I caught a small one. Around the 4th cast I felt a faint thump so I set the hook. Felt heavy but the way my trips have been lately I assumed it was an Asian carp. Pulled drag a couple times so I just let it wear down. Got a look at the fish and it was a crappie. Got it in the net and thought, that is a good-un. Chunked it in livewell and kept fishing. Maybe caught 15 crappie and a few white perch all being on the smaller side. Decided to look at the big fish again and it looked bigger. Measured a little over 17.5" so I thought, maybe, just maybe this is my invite to the club. Decided to head to the bait store to get an official weight. To my total shock, it was 3.13. To realize that my bride and myself both caught fish over 3lbs the same year withing a few weeks of each other thrilled my soul. I'll be the first to admit, I'm too dumb to be a good fisherman so anytime I catch anything I consider it a blessing from above. Fish was released in great shape.
Sorry to bore you guys with long stories but it took me 45 years of fishing to get one. She caught hers on her 4th fishing trip but hey, who's counting anyway. Thanks for listening and hope everyone is safe out there this weekend.
