    Default River Rats

Are back after the spawn in numbers and hungry . Never have figured out where they go late winter and early spring , but to be sure around mid may they come back to my spot down on the river .
Lit them up Monday like wildfire and hit them a bit Tuesday and went for a opposite side of the river rematch yesterday . Yesterday was similar to Monday in that the numbers and size were very good and Tuesday was kinda of slow with only a half dozen or so .
Mostly white crappie in the 10 to 13 inch range and running between 3 and 5 foot deep in the river channel in around 9 to 10 foot of water.
I have found them wanting a really UGLY bait that has really never been very kind to me in the past . I got this pack of baits on a clearance rack a few years ago and have never found fish interested in it . But for unknown reasons they seem to love it now ?
I wonder since its some kinda of flavor enhanced thing if maybe as it ages its likely fine wine and gets better ?
Then there is the awful color of it and then again its a every color thing and not a single color . I was tempted into using it due to cloudy turbid water conditions and run it on a chart jighead .
Ran tandems of it yesterday under a larger float to beat the wind a bit and get even more visibility to the fish . Was quite pleased with the results and only broke off on one fish on the bank .
Day one was very slow drag of the bait to get bit , Tuesday was a day I never quite got figured out well and yesterday was a pop it like fire in the waves thing . Lots of typical summer bites in laid over floats and barely visible take downs and just plain old thumps on the float .
hope you enjoy the read and the photos and have a great day .
