Default DRKellog - How long of a rammer can you build

DR Kellogh - I read your post below about using a rammer to push a PVC pipe into the bottom of the lake.

How long of a rammer have you used? Do you think it would be possible to push a pipe/bamboo combo into 25 feet or more of water?????

    Appreciate your thoughts

We have one that is 20 ft. long. It is made of 1.25 in. pvc pipe with 3 in pipe to hold the stakes. Cut the pipe in 5 ft. lengths. Add a male adapter to one end and a female adapter to the other. When you get to the lake just screw it together to get the depth you need. Hpoe this helps.

Default Thanks Jeff - how much space do you leave at the top?

    Thanks Jeff.

QUick followup. How much space should I leave at the end of the rammer to put the end of the stake into?

We use 32 in. of 3 in. pvc. Then we take a 2x6 and cut a circle out of it that will just fit (hammer) into the end of the 3 in. pipe. Add a 3 in. coupling. Then a 3x1 1/4 bushing. Then a female adapter. Now you can add your 5 ft. lengths to get the depth needed.

Default Thanks Jeff - How far does a stake need to be driven

    Thanks Jeff.

I presume you then attempt to drive the stake in 3 feet. Do you ever encounter problems pushing it that far into the lake bed? Never having done it I am wondering if pushing it that far is always possible.

    Thanks again for your help!

What kind of stakes are you driving with this Rammer?
