Got 2 new Millineum seats from EZ Poleholder. I really like them, except I'm not crazy about the straps that support the back of the seat. I've seen Rickies modification on Podunk Ideas and that would be a big improvement, but I like the flexibility of the straps, versus the aluminum brackets.
My question is, is there any reason that I couldn't shorten the straps by about half, and just move them closer to the hinge? As long as I make them the correct length and keep the correct back/bottom angle, I don't see what it would hurt. I would also think it would be best to keep the strap at least at, or slightly above the halfway point of the back of the seat. If that makes sense. Instead of it being near the top of the back, put it down about mid ways...

I had to run out to the garage to see how they are attached. Should be easily shortened. You could actually customize It to sit up more or lean farther back if you wanted. It will just put more pressure on the straps but as long as your not leaning back too hard it should be fine. If you do shorten it, you may need to reinforce the end you cut by sewing it like the original end to keep the end of the strap from coming apart. I've also looked at Rickie's chair holdit but haven't decided what I'm going to do. With the cold weather tomorrow, I may look into shortening mine.

Go for it. If it don’t turn out then you can go with Ricky’s braces. I like the straps because I’m a lil fella and I can rare back like I’m in my recliner . After I rebolted my seat base ! (Lol)
I say go for it! However, I thought they would get in the way when I first got them.
They don’t get in the way, you might want to try them for a day first before you cut them.

One word of caution. When drilling new holes, make sure you are as far away from edge where back material is crimped into seat. Have heard of guys drilling into material causing it to start to fray out.

Just heat a Phillips screwdriver. Get it red hot and poke through.

Instead of cutting them in half what if you just simply folded them in half and the strap would be doubled and it would actually be stronger seems like just a idea.
