    Default Chains

Question for those who drag chains:

How shallow can you fish with them?

Use one in the middle or two off the back corner???

I'm fishing in a tourniment next Sat and the area where I want to fish is (for now) predicted to have 12 mph wind blowing right up it so I'm trying to figure our how to keep the boat slow. Any thoughts?

With 12 mph winds you will need one off each side. I use a 7 foot piece of 3/8" and then have a 5 foot piece of 1/4" to attach to that when its real bad. 40 foot of rope on each side with a loop at 25 feet to use when in shallow water. This will stop my boat in 20 mph winds but a lot of this depends on the boat you are fishing, bigger heavier takes a little more to stop and a boat that sits high out of the water is harder to slow down.

Thanks Rees I run a tracker 175WT. It does sit high but can get into 2 FOW.

I'm not looking ro Stop though. I like to slow troll @.5. My main concern is if I drag these, will it mess fishing up in that shallow water not only for me (well mostly for me :D ) but also for anyone around me.

Plus my partner will be fishing out of the back for this one and I don't want to mess with his setup. Maybe I should think about putting a pair of buckets on each side???

    Perhaps daisy chain 2 each???

I have a 17’ tracker and two buckets in the water with about 10-12 winds slows me down pretty good. If it doesn’t then I’m heading home.

Won't work if not on bottom.....
Adjust so only part of chain on bottom to fine tune speed.

Every used drift socks? Just a thought. We've used old pickle buckets in the past. Two small drift socks might be just what you need.

I fish from a Pt175, I sue 2 buckets off the back if the wind is under 10mph, if its stronger I use 1 drift sock. If you have someone fishing off the back Id attach a sock on the opposite side he is fishing from

Chains will be behind where he is fishing, get in the ropes would be the only concern.
As far as messing people up, the answer is no, help them most likely. Can't count the times I have looked back and seen a boat in my path picking up fish. The stirring up the bottom a little seemed to make them active.
