Default What is this part of the reel seat?

This is on a BnM SHSS rod. I don't recall this loose metal ring on the reel seat last year. I took the reel off to see if it would slide off. It wouldn't, so I cut it off. There is a solid chance I'm loosing my mind, but it would've annoyed me last year too. Name: IMG_1217.jpg

It goes around the throat of the plastic reel seat nut on bottom to keep it from spreading out and cracking I believe.

I've got 3 SHSS rods and none have that ring (?).

The people at BnM responded very quickly and kindly. After eight messages back and forth, they said they've "never seen this before" and "I don't think it has anything to do with the nut." They said to use it and if affects anything to let them know. Given how quick and personable they were, I think they'll take care of it, if anything happens now.

This was Janice B. She seemed to have the same attitude.
