Hows a come you don't want a go pro? I used my Kodak 85 and shot some but had battery issues. The Go pro has a lot of advantages with one being interchangeable batteries. One quits and pop in a new one and you're back to it. Waterproof is another. Just my input.

You can buy GoPro copies on Amazon 50 bucks. They get good reviews, I'm thinking about getting one.

You can also buy an older GoPro model like the Hero 3 for a hundred or so.

One brand I don’t reccomend is Xcell cameras. I got one and a lot of accessories... the battery life is terrible, you can’t hear a thing without the attachable mic, and if you want to use the attachable mic, you have to take it out of the waterproof case. Do not reccomend.
That said, if anybody wants to buy one, let me know xD

I know a lot of people like them, but I'm not a big fan of the GoPro at all. Terrible design. Similar issues Jman mentions about Xcell. Terrible battery life, separate case to be water proof, have to remove from case to get sound if you use the waterproof case. Every time I used mine, the batteries would be dead cause the large buttons were accidentally pressed while in my pocket. Can't read that tiny display. Maybe they've improved, but my experience with a go-pro 2 or 3 (I think) turned me off so much I gave it away. I use a Fuji XP80 and love it. Wifey even bought one. just my opinion

I have a GoPro and it serves me well. I cheated and don't have battery issues. I installed USB ports and bought a longer charging cable. Now I can leave it on the USB all day and take video until the memory is full. I usually mount it to my All-Around (Anchor) light. Give a great downward view of the boat.

IF I just need a quick down and dirty video, I use my smart phone.
