    Default Big crappie day

I caught a 16.5” 2.2 pound crappie today. Here is my story. I was fishing brushpiles by standing structure and using my favorite colors, blue ice and white, and the crappie would only bump the jig but not take it. Earlier in the day I had caught some bass and remembered that the bass would not hit normal colors like watermelon or black and blue, but they hit some off colors, so I thought, why not try some off colors on the crappie also. I put on a red plastic tube I found in my box, I only had one, and I caught two crappie on the next few cast. One of them was the 16.5 and the other was about 14”. Then I lost the jig doing a foolish thing. I caught another big crappie and was afraid to swing it, so—- yes, you know what I did, I grab the line and POP, it broke and my only red tube was gone.
So I dug around in my box of plastics and found some plastics that were black headed but the tube tentacle part was multicolored, red, pink, orange and so forth. I tied one on and caught some more crappie, about a dozen in all, the smallest was about 11”.
I brought home 5 for supper, and the one in the middle is the 16.5.
What did I learn? Two things, don’t grab the line and don’t be afraid to try different stuff.
