Default Testing of Christmas presents ....

A co worker long time friend gave me a Shakespeare GX2 rod and reel combo for a present .
I thought let me load up some line on it and give it a creek test the other day . Went down at lunch with it loaded up with some 6 lb clear blue Stren and that little jewel worked right nicely . Of the bank down there its difficult right now to get into the larger fish as its getting thinned out daily and sometimes even by the hour , but I hit a spot I have not visited this year down there and found a herd of so so crappie in a sunken brush area in about 3 foot of water .
The rod has great action and is stiffer than the other ugly sticks I have and the reel performed right nicely as well . I gave those there creek fish a good lip ripping for about an hour and a bit and enjoyed the chill in the air as well .
Still presenting the jig about 18 inches under a fixed float and twitching it quite often . Color seems to somewhat of a whatever you like right now and the water clarity is pretty good .I have been told the water temp is right at 50 and the fish are for sure all up and down the creek on every piece of cover available and rather aggressive as well .
managed at least 50 fish in that time and got bit EVERY cast !
stay tuned yawl, but done stay thirsty

Remember to thank your friend, looks like a nice combo. And nice fish, as always.

Sweet!! I've fished with ugly stix for a very long time, but they were all medium heavy for striper and catfish. I picked up a 7' ultra lite GX2 on sale for 16 bucks at Wal-Mart yesterday. Grabbed an Abu Garcia Silvermax 30 series real and some 15lbs Power Pro Slick 8 to put on it. Hope you go try it out for a couple hours today.

I've got to run down to texoma monday our Teusday to take care of some bidness and may try to do a little slab huntin from the bank on Ray Roberts. Any advice where to try?

    Enjoy your posts, keep'em comin'

I have a pair of the 5' GX2 and a pair of 7' GX2 deluxe with Shimano Sienna's. Good rods. You might catch a few more fish if you reel with the right handTesting of Christmas presents ....
