I assume the wire is to hold the plastic bait on the jig hook better? I hold my plastics on the jig hook like Richard Gene (fishing machine) suggests, only I did a slight improvement by whip finishing the dental floss by the head after tying originally at the head, wrapping tight to the rear then loosely back to the head before applying the glue. Very hard to pull the plastic bait off the hook. Pop

Precisely why I quit using glue on hollow tubes and went to solid tubes & all other plastics. I got tired of having to cut/retie a new jig & glue another tube on whenever the gills finally bit off all of the skirt strips. And to make the old jig usable again, I had to whittle on it with a pocket knife to get the glue & plastics remains off the jighead.

Now I just replace the plastics when the tail gets bit off, or the body gets torn up so bad it won't stay on the hook .... but, that usually takes catching a good number of fish on it, first. I have been known to cast & catch fish on the same jig/plastics for a couple of trips or more before that happens, though. Not always, but occasionally.
