Do you fish with reels facing up or down?

I want to be able to hit the thumb-bar on my Shakespeare reels without thinking about it to let out line in case I have to swing a fish into the boat or drag it to the net.

Up .... as I see no purpose in having a baitcast reel hanging upside down & having to not only lift the rod out of the holder, but also turn the rod over, in the process, in order to have the reel in the correct position for cranking in the line. Just seems to add a factor of difficulty & cumbersomeness to what should be a straight forward & simple act.

I don't know if it is because i am left handed or just like the natural bow of my rods but i fish with the reel facing down. very rarely i need to hit that thumb bar until l lift aboard or net it. to each his on. fish on...

Up for me. I like the bait casters for spider rigging. Spinning reels for long lining.

I fish mine up also, but have noticed pics of some with reels down.
I do fish with strike indicator beads between the last 2 guides. They seem to work best when the beads are hanging down as with spinning rods.

I remember years and years ago when my papa only had Uncle Buck's jig rods with the 2 metal tabs on the rod butt for winding and holding line.
I'm not sure but I believe I caught fish with them tabs on the top, on the bottom, to the left and to the right!

My spinning reels are down... Just ordered a bunch of baitcasters to switch out I the spinning reels(easier on my little girl, she can't get used to the left hand reel on a spinning) Baitcasters will be up... I just ordered 14 so now I either need more rods for the others or selling the spinning... Plus after this last weekend, we were pushing at only 2-3 ft deep on 14 ft rods, I'm done with spinning reels for that, I want to be able to hit the bar and let line out easier to land them

Orion_70 the Spinning reels comes in handy if you are going to do any long lining.
