Gooderns ! Great job figuring em out!
Dropped down to visit one of my favorite winter lunch break spots Monday . Thought I was going to whoop them pretty good . Tried a little larger bait and NOTHING ! Tried a little smaller bait and again NOTHING ! I had my depth set where it has been good and tried several different presentations , Still NOTHING ? So I decided to go a foot deeper knowing full well I was likely to get hung up in the cover , but one must try don't ya know ....
Well all the sudden the float goes down and I found me a potato chip crappie
and then another and then the size got better . Then it dawned on me , they are here in numbers and I went a bit deeper , but the presentation wasn't just right and I struggled a bit . Got frustrated and decided to jig the living you know what out of it and began popping my float like a sand bass fisherman . Then by golly it turned into the ketchn show and a lip ripping to beat the band adventure ensued . All the fish were released and I was all alone down there .
So if you are without electronics and are pretty sure there are crappie to be had don't be afraid to go right out of the box on presentations , the shad were there in numbers getting blown up on the surface in lots of spots and I suppose the crappie wanted a FRANTIC bait ? probably landed at least 50 fish in an hour and a half and I imagine about half of them were keepers .
anyway stay tuned ,but don't stay thirsty

You’re killing me! Great report!
You were to wore out, to go back to work!
You hit the nail on the head, Ketchn. Presentation quite often makes the difference between getting blanked (or getting just a couple) and hammerin' 'em. Sometimes they want 'em bouncing and sometimes they won't hit anything but a deadstick presentation. Yesterday, they hit a cast and let it just swing back to a vertical position, hitting it as the jig got about 4 feet from being vertical. Dropping it to the right depth and swimming it didn't work. Experimentation with technique is the key to being successful when your "normal" technique isn't working.
Nice catch.

Nice catch.
Good job sticking with it and catching a bunch
Lemon Pie looked like it was working. Can't tell whose chartreuse, but it was good too.
