I think in 2018 I will try something new to me. River crappie . We have a river that averages 8-10 fow and averages about 50 yds wide. It has some twists and turns, some bridge pilings, and a few small creeks coming in. Have lived on this river all my life and have never tried crappie fishing it. Don't know anybody who does either. Gotta be some there. I will just try to figure it out.

My father-in-law and I fished a small river for many years for catfish. We used minnows which crappie really like and never caught a lot of crappie just one every now and then. Now the river we fished may have been different from yours but it was about the same width and depth as you mentioned. Hope you have better good luck than we did. I will say that they do not like water current so fish in the inside bends and behind logs or anything that breaks or slows the water current. Will be looking forward to hearing how you do in the small river you fish. Good luck.

You'd be surprised, some of these are untapped honey holes. I fish rivers and creeks quite a bit. Pulled a lot of good fish and limits from creeks off the Ohio. Hardly ever see another crappie boat either.
