I want a new casting rod

After work today, I went to Academy Outdoors in search of a rod on which to put a new Pfleuger President. I wanted something 6'-7' long. I do not want a 2 piece rod. I'd prefer a cork handle. I want something that has a light action, but doesn't whip around like a wet noodle. After looking around I don't think one exists that has a backbone, and a light, fast tip. I'd like to stay in the $50 or so range.

I have a couple bass fishing All Star rods and thought an All Star would fit the bill for what I wanted. Nope. Their lightest one is a wet noodle and the "Dock Shooter" is too stiff and didn't feel very sensitive when I tapped it on the shelf at the store. The vast majority of what I found were two piece rods. I have never liked those.

I ended up with a Lew's Wally Marshall signature 7' rod. It's a little "whippy" but maybe it'll be okay.

So what's popular with you crappie.com folks?

Bass Pro Microlites are around $50, and there are many models to choose from.

Only use custom rods. My last ones were 75 a piece. I like them with backbone and all the action on end. Super sensitive. Come to camp I'll show you one.

Have you thought about building your own? More expensive? Maybe. Then again, you now have the rod that you want. Can put whatever type and combination of handles, colors, guides, etc.

For a rod your gonna cast with I like the Sam Heaton 7 ft.

X2 on the Sam Heaton 7' Super Sensitive model from B n' M. However, it is a 2 piece rod.

I picked up a couple of the Bass Pro Shops xps bionic blade 7' medium light fast action last year. they cast a 1/16 jig very well with 4-6lb line. Think they were around $70-80 each

You bought a good rod! I Love my Wally pro staff 7' med. light rod. Cost $50, 1 piece, super sensitive and has good backbone.
