Default I got my Abbey back...

So here's the story: My mom and Daughter lost their dog Lucy about two weeks ago and Abbey has been working. She's been at my moms serving as a comfort dog.

    Here's Lucy:

Lucy was my daughters first dog. She was a wonderful dog for my mom and daughter (my daughter lives with my mom and takes care of her).

Three weeks ago we watched Lucy at our house while my daughter flew up north to visit my Grandson and Granddaughter. Lucy did not eat much but seemed OK.
Then my daughter came home, and Wifey and I left for the Keys. While we were at the Keys Lucy got ill and had to be put down due to kidney failure. Both my mom and daughter were heartbroken.

Enter Abbey. I left Abbey with mom while I went to tour with Billbob a week and half ago (fishing in MS and IL). Abbey did a wonderful job of consoling and comforting both mom and daughter.

Hearing how my mom was loving Abbey's company (she was actually walking her!), I was thinking I'd be giving Abbey up to my mom when I got home (just ask Billbob).

But I could not believe, when we got home they got another dog. I told them to wait, I told them we have enough dogs to go around, but they went to a dog adoption event anyway. I told them they'd come home with one if they went. I told them not to go unless they were serious. Well, I guess they were serious. They found a 5 year old dog they named Rex. Small enough so mom could walk him. A perfect match. It's great how things happen sometimes. I keep Abbey and we all have a new member of our doggie family.

Slab, thanks for a great post. The pics are awesome and a reminder how special dogs are. Tell your mom she did a great job on her new companion.

Dogs are special and the loss felt when they pass is big and it's real. Some people just don't understand it. Thanks for sharing.

Things have a way of working out..You have a special bond with Abbey. That bond cannot be broken or transferred....Both of you would be miserable.....

Just shows there is more in life than crappie fishing. Family, including pets, are right there at the top too. Thx, Slab, for letting us into your families life. Great post!

I feel the same way about my S&W. I pet it and rub it down on a regular basis. This has a calming effect and it only barks when I want it to.
