    Default Cold Front Questions

We have a cold front in the Midwest, temps tonight going down to 53. Feels like fall with a 20mph NW wind. What does this normally do for fishing, tomorrow looks clear and 78 but still much cooler than the heat we just experienced.

    thanks for any info

The norm for a day or 2, after a cold front, is fish go deep & suspend or go to bottom. Cold fronts usually mean high pressure.

I like cold fronts as long as the wind isnt too bad. Cold fronts for me tend to keep the boats at home and the fish are still hungry.

In my experience, an approaching cold front will kick fish feeding into high gear. Immediately after a cold front is usually very tough fishing as the fish go inactive for a couple of days. Crappie can still be caught but you might have to put your bait on its nose and let it sit there to entice a strike.

I never know what to expect on fronts myself , sometimes it's lock jaw sometimes not .....higher pressures seem to slow them up for sure . But never say never and pitch that jig or you will never know for sure
