Default Best Crappie cooler size help

Hey guys. Sorry if this has been discussed previously, but I was looking at getting a cooler and fill it with ice to use while I fish over night, instead of using hot lake water.

I was going to get an Igloo Breeze cooler because it has great reviews.

My question is this; they have a 9 qt cooler for $10 and they have a 48 qt for $15.99....would a 9qt cooler hold 30 crappie? The 48 is too big IMO.

No. If you fill them with ice, neither one will hold any crappie.
    Tell'em I'll be there.

I would think the 9qt. would be too small maybe the 28 qt. island breeze would be a better size for you.

What? I use a 28 qt tall cooler and it's okay, but it's not mine. I wasn't going to fill it all the way up with ice. Better question would be how many Crappie can you put in a 9 qt cooler I guess. I really wanted to get the cooler, but I think 9 is too small, but 48 is too big. The boat is a vhull and it's maybe 50" wide.

I wonder why a 28 qt is 19.00 and the 48 qt is 15.00 ... strange. How many fish can I put in that? I was thinking the flatter one would hold more that the tall.

9 quart is to small but a 28 will do ok if you fish alone and your lake limits are limited .With many more than 15 large crappie you will be full, but if they are 9 inch fish 30 will go ,I think .

I'm just going to grab the 48 qt. It's about $5 cheaper than the 28 qt. I guess it is on sale. But I searched and the pros use 48. Thank you guys for the help. I just didn't want to get a small cooler and it not work out. Next time I go fishing, I'm going to keep them on ice (2 bags). Needed enough room. I usually catch around 12-15, but if I do hit the 30 limit, I didn't want to not have enough room.

I use a 48 qt. I have never felt the need for more. As long as you have room for it bigger is better. My reasoning, I often have a couple of fish of another species as by-catch and the added room in the cooler is welcomed.

Check out the Igloo Cube cooler. Mine is 60 quarts but takes up less floor space than smaller coolers. I use it often for what you are looking to do.
