what changes do you make, if any, jig fishing going into springtime? of course you move shallow but do you change the way you retreive? or what types of jigs you use?

when they move up I use 1/32 jigs, I spider rig with a rod as shallow as 1 foot of water when its stained a bit, I am excited to use my 1/32 with #2 hooks this spring because I wont miss as many as I tend to with the typical #6 hooks on most 1/32 jigs, I also speed up my trolling to cover more shore line.
I don't change a thing other than you can retrieve it a little faster as the water warms up.
I as well employ the float n fly method , but i twitch n jerk the rod tip all the way back with a slow/medium retrieve , especially in the midday hours across shallow points.
I switch to action baits like sliders and Kalin grubs on roadrunner heads...those shallow fish just cant resist.

I cast a slider to brush or blowdowns and give it a slow and steady retrieve. Sometimes I will add a float and fish it slower if I don't have an luck with the steady retrieve.
I use a smaller jig. I start out the spring with a 1" tube on a 1/80 head.
still use the same jigs, same 1/32-1/16oz jigheads, and fish them pretty much the same way ... slow, steady, shallow. (shallow, as in <10ft deep)Originally Posted by bama647

I don't fish any different except fish shallower. I still mostly tight line large tube jigs with 1/8 oz leadheads. Those fish can see those bigger jigs better in our murky water. I want the larger hooks in the 1/8 size to handle those slabs in heavier cover.
