    Default The DEEP

Clearer waters and no thermocline will sure enough make crappie go deep in the summer in these parts . I got an invite to go hit some fish with two friends Saturday morning . We met our bud at 7:30 am and he had scanned a spot right before we got there not far from the ramp in about 30 foot of water .
I asked how it looked and he said with a slight smile there was about 150 or so fish there , I said lets go rip them lips brother .....we rolled up and began to ketch them pretty fast and most were under 10 inches or just there ...we boxed I think 9 that were above 10.5 and then repositioned ourselves to pitch into the wind and WOW does it make a difference to let a bait fall back to you with the current created in that scenario . Like I told him many many times a slight adjustment and the proper everything and its on like donkey kong .....we had a few fish in the 15 inch range by the days end .
I tend to think there was more than 150 down there because we tossed back at least 7 or 8 to every fish we boxed up ...my guess would be maybe a thousand or so ...sounds crazy but we had to have boated easily 500 to 600 in 5 hours of sitting there for sure ....
we got rained out 2 short of our 75 fish limit and left when the thunder started right after lunch time , rain hit us hard about 10 minutes from the ramp after we got in our rides to go home .
we sat at the one spot the entire time and wore them down pretty well ....
most of the fish were below 15 down and many fish were in the 25 foot down range , we only fished jigs and natural colors on 1/8 jigheads worked best ...
I whooped a bunch on a pearl Go Go Minnow and a salt and pepper silver slim stick as well ...monkey milk and some other natural colored baits in several styles also worked quite well ...
the ice chest photo is all of the fish and the cleaning station photo is after I took mine to the house , I kept around a dozen or so and had to go go ...wife calling and wanting to know why I wasn't home yet ....
stay tuned yawl but done stay thirsty ....
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales

    Nice day for sure. Congrats!

I have a question. What were the fish holding on? Were they just suspended or was there structure?
