That's fine. I used a flasher for years around our dock to find debris. I now use a Humminbird Fishing Buddy. Fising buddy is a sonar on a stick.
Heading on vacation in a couple weeks, there are crappies in the docks but I have no idea what depth in late July or where to find them. I made a chunk of PVC pipe to hold my transducer and use my Vexilar and plan to bring my ice fishing pole and try grubs.
Just wondering any thoughts on this process plan to use my small tungsten jigs for ice fishing also.
We tried this in March when went on a short fishing trip and we had a blast but water temp was 60 vs 85 water temp
thanks for any ideas

I do it all the time in the winter months when the ice is not good. Transducer needs to be completely still just like you were on ice for best results.
Shoot the docks !! Use the countdown method to determine the depth the fish are holding at, but bare in mind that if there's a thermocline in the lake ... they won't be below that depth (but will likely be just above it).
