Finally, Walt & I were able to get together to stretch some lines for crappie. First time this season! Between medical problems, doctor's appointments, weather and life in general, we just haven't been able to hit the water like we're use to.

Launched at about 8:10 am this morning. Water temp was 62, air was 64. Cool start but a southerly breeze kicked up the temp in a hurry. When we pulled off at 2 pm, the air was 86 and the surface water was close to 70.

Calm to start with, so casting was the rule of the game to start. The "gray ghost" Roadruner did well. As did Sliders and straight tails later on as we started to drift with a 10 mph breeze. Unfortunately, we only managed to catch & release 23 crappie today. A relatively poor showing for our first boat trip. According to the gate attendant, this pond experienced a "fish kill" last fall, which we may be seeing the results of this season?

We found several bait balls today, close to the bottom. Normally these would be interspersed with crappie & yellow perch. But not today as you can see from this picture:

Few if any fish were actually marked today, which is very unusual. In any case, here are a few pictures of today's fishing trip:

We didn't get any giants today, but with the problems this pond is having, I'm not sure if that is a realistic expectation at this point? All in all, we had a great time. Two old coots swapping lies and fish tales. What could be better?
