Default Nor crappie but walleye on Monroe today.

Launched at Moore's Creek Ramp at 6:30 am this morning, ran to middle of main lake area and set 3 rods out with bottom bouncer weights and flo geen/yellow spinners with night crawlers, caught 3 under 14", 1 at 14.75", and 1 at 16.5". Lost a 7-8 lb walleye about 10' from the boat as I reached for the net when I broke a med. action 8' ugly stick rod about 8" above the handle. Very nice fish. Quit fishing at noon. Little to no boat traffic on the lake this morning. Fish were caught in 10' to 12' of water fishing the outer edges of weed beds, speed was 0.8 to 1.0 mph, water temp 77. Nice chop to the water on main lake. Hard to keep the blue gill and yellow pesky bass off the hooks and did catch, about a 3 lb striper also.

Good report. Love those days when there is minimal boat traffic.

It was 30 yrs or older and had caught lots of 30 plus pound king salmon during my salmon fishing days on Lake Michigan.

Was it a proud or a sad moment?

I was really surprised to even catch that many walleye as I hadn't fished for them in years and had been going thru all my tackle boxes for a week to scrounge tackle to use and managed to put 3 bait casting rods and 3 spinning rods together with ancient equipment that I had to wash the dust off of in order to line the guides on the rods. Then only took 2 dozen night crawlers with me and was using half a worm or a third of a worm finally ran out and came home. I really need to make a run to Cabellas and get some better equipment and more tackle as we don't have crap within 100 miles of my house for walleye fishing. I spent this evening stringing beads, spinner blades and tying snell hooks for spinner baits even. I'm just taking a break from chasing crappies but, they sure do eat good.
