Default How to catch a ....?

Any ideas on how to catch shad other than a cast net? I saw a nice herd of them last weekend, they were swarming in a shallow weed bed,but them buggers wouldn't bite on a thing. They were about 8" long,I would like to try them as cut bait for catfish.

You can snag them with a large treble hook fairly easy if it's legal in your area

Maybe try a long handle dip net if you are real quick but a small cast net is still your best bet.

The smaller the better. I have a 6' net, it's a foot or two too much.

There is a rig called a Sibiki rig that I use to cast for them in running water. I get them from BPS. They have very small green plastic jigs on them. I tie a topwater lure with the hooks removed from the topwater to the end of the line so the rig doesn't sink. Good luck.
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.

I have actually used a sibiki rig for trout.several years ago,I bought some and used them dropshot style, tipped with mealworms, many trout met the fry pan because of the sibiki.
