    Default Fillet Size?

What would you guys consider the mininum size to fillet? My little boy loves them, he don't have to worry about the bones. I brung home some our last trip that was eating size, but not fillet size.

If that were my son I'd whittle what I could off for him even if I had to eat frozen fillets from the grocery store. Half lbers I may split and fillet out one side leaving the other on the bone if that's the catch size and my wife and daughter are eating 'em. I generally dont bother filleting whole fish less than 3/4 lb.

If it is not filleted I usually won't eat em. Hate the bones. We have that 10 inch min so that is the min I will fillet

Fillet them all Preacher, I use an elec. fillet knife and although you have to be delicate you can fillet a 6 or 7 inch crappie. Takes alot of practice and you will probably have to trash a few.

I flet perch down to 6" when thats all I have. I don't keep crappie less then 8" so that the bottom line on them. I use an electric knife. Fast and works great.....

I have never used an electric knife. Do they make that much of a difference? I find on the small ones that I wind up with a very thin fillet that usually gets to crunchy.

    Preacher,

When you run the electric fillet knife down the fish, get as close to the bone as possible. Even if you have to get a little bone meal in the fillet. They should come out a little thicker.
