What are you guys using? I tried the little rubber ones on the ring. They work okay but slip when catching the rod tip. The little plastic ones get caught in the reel and don't wanna cast. Whats the best you have found.?

Thill. Finer thread, grip the line better and go through the guides better.
I dislike the rubber buttons as they don't do will when casting. And the dog bone type are even worse. For many, many decades I've used the standard pre-tied string stops work just fine.

String stops for me. I leave about 1/2" on the tag ends so I can see the stop and also for if they loosen up on me.
I use the string stops also
I haven't tried the Thill finer thread but I have little problems with the generic string stops, I too leave about half an inch to each side to retighten should the opportunity arise but I take it one step further and tie an overhand know before I trim each side, it's easier to grip while pulling to retighten.
