There are three basic types of posts & bases. The first is the BIG base around 2" or so. Then there are two different 3/4" posts - one is a slip in&out (sometime with great difficulty) while the other has a threaded end and screws into the base. There are also some weird ones out there, but the most common are the ones I described. I thought I had the screw in type on an older boat I bought. I tried everything to get them out. I reached under the deck to see if I could feel the threaded end but it was just a stuck slip in. I soaked it with an aerosol lube and let it set and finally got the posts out.

BTW: no amount of cleaning the pin and base made them usable again. Once I got them clean they would rust while I was looking at them.
