Default Bottom mount reel seat with spinning reel?

I have used a bottom mount with an open face reel just for jigging cover, but wondering how awkward casting would be with a bottom mount and spinning reel?

Cumbersome & awkward, but not impossible. IMHO

I use mine to flip under the tree limbs and dropshotting. Balances really well.

Have not tried it with conventional, open faced spinning reels. However, back about 3 decades ago, when I was into stream fishing for trout, I used a 9' flyrod with a Johnson Century (closed faced) reel on the bottom. Used 2# test Trilene XL on the spool. I had no problems casting 1/32 oz. jigs and tiny Colorado spinners. Caught an awful lot of trout with that rigging. I'd certainly give it a try.

The reel seat is at the bottom, like with a fly rod. With a spinning rod, the reel seat is half way up the handle. Take another look at the title of the thread.

I was in the boat with Ichabod. I assumed he meant under the rod as opposed to the end of the rod. Was comparing spinning (bottom) to casting (top). Never even considered a fly rod with the reel at the end. Was a little confused.
