    Default Live bait---minnows

Can I ask how you rig up your minnows?

i.e. double minnow crappie rigs, single hook under a split shot, lip hooked or hooked under the dorsal fin etc.

    Thanks!

Single hook under a slip shot through the dorsal fin works for me. It seems to allow the minnow to swim more freely and live longer. Gold aberdeen #2 hook.

I generally use a #1 lite wire bronze Aberdeen hook - #4 Gremlin split shot sinker - single minnow, hooked thru the eye socket. I use the eye socket hooking method, especially when the boat is moving (drifting, slow trolling) or when I'm slip float fishing and lifting and dropping the minnow a lot. When tightlining, while tied to a tree trunk and stationary, I do occasionally hook the minnow thru the back (under and to the rear of the dorsal fin).

When "casting" them (on a jighead) I run the hook point from under their "chin" (at the V shaped folds) and out between the nostrils. And, if I'm trolling them, hooked on a jighead, and moving with much speed and over any great distance ... I insert the hook into their mouth and exit it thru the top of their "neck" (I just want the smell and look of a minnow, so it doesn't matter if the minnow dies ... and the jighead holds the minnow in an upright position)

When "eye socket" hooking a minnow, care is taken to run the hook BEHIND the eyeballs ... NEVER THROUGH THEM.

I hook mine under the jaw and through the nostrils however I'm fishing. I use a gold aberdeen 2/0 or sometimes 1/0 hook.

#4 or #6 aberdeen hook under a slip bobber. Hooked just under the dorsel fin.

Thru the back of the eyes with a Mr Crap #1 Lazer hook,#4 round split weight, followed by a keeper bit of plastic (sometimes under a bobber). Thru its sweet lips with a jig.
