Default Depth Finder on new Ipilot

So I finally bit the bullet and bought a powerdrive ipilot motor. So far I'm in love!!! My problem is I tried to put my transducer for my depth finder on the trolling motor. With the spot lock feature the entire head of the motor sometimes turns all the way around. It stretches the depth finder chord so tight it almost ripped in two. My question is how do you guys mount those guys onto your trolling motor? Do I just have to make sure there is a ton of slack in the line? Just curious.
