I go through lips until they keep getting robbed then I'll go through the eyes.

I've broke down and given in to the minnow temptation. I used to use them religiously but haven't for a decade. I always hooked them thru both eyes but now I'm going to be using some of the Arkie teaser gnats and it seems they will work better with the hook upright.
Looking for some input on how you hook them and why you think there is an advantage to your way.

Lips, when tipping. Sometimes tail when fishing on a plain hook.
Eyes when fishing them alone, lips on a jig.
Lips
I put the hook in the eyeball socket, but "behind" the eyeballs, not "through" the eyes themselves. I think it makes it harder for the "little bait stealers" to knock the minner off the hook.
When using a jig, I run the hook from under the "chin" (the V shaped folds of the lower jaw) and bring it out between the nostril holes. Again, it makes it harder for the minner to get knocked/yanked off the hook.
And in both cases ... the minner swims freely/naturally, and stays alive for a long time.
Now, I will say this : my late fishing buddy used to fish a minner on a jighead, and after seeing me hook my minner behind the eyeballs (with a plain hook) he decided to do it that way on his jighead. And he caught fish with it hooked up that way, even though the minner was basically forced to swim sideways. Not sure if the fish just didn't care, or if the minner was more "active" (due to constantly trying to right itself) But, also of note : his minners did seem to die faster than mine ... but, I'm not sure if they died from overexertion or his hooking method
I lip hook them most of the time. If I don't have my cheaters on and having trouble seeing I will go through the eyes

If just using a gold aberdeen hook I go through the eyes, If im using a jig and tipping I go through the lips, and using sickle hooks like the gnats I go through the lips. But who know I could be doing it all wrong haha
i don't use minnows but I know folks that do and on plain hooks a tail hooked one is hard to beat
