Your Go To Jig-Hook!

So what characteristics makes up your favorite "Go-To" jig hook?

• Hook size?
• Painted or unpainted head?
• Head color?
• Hook style, Sickle or traditional?
• Weedless, Light-Wire?

I can't say that I have settled in on one myself which is why I'm asking the question to get an idea of what most people like to use and are having success with. Been looking at weedless jigs, light wire jigs, but even then there are several choice to consider like sickle hook vs. regular hooks etc.

size 1 eagle claw light wire round bend, painted head, white or chartruese are my faves but aint scared of any color

i make my own. not because there any better i just enjoy doing it. i use #2 matzuo sickle hooks and pour either minnow or ball head. if i'm jigging vertically i prefer a ball head. drifting or long lining i prefer minnow head. i powder coat them with most all colors and hand paint the pupils. i don't thing my jigs are any better than over the counter stuff....It's strictly personal preference.

For everything I like a 1/16th #4. Open water or not lots of grabby stuff I go to #2. Close quarters and brush and grabby stuff, #6. Always a sickle and bronze more often than no. Heads be naked, I pour em myself. I have painted a bunch but don't always use em.

The #6 for 1.5" tubes and smaller plastics, the #2 for 2"+ plastics.

Paint- Purple is my #1, Red is my #2

I do have some #8 1/32oz sickle hooks for tiny plastic baits as well.

I also pour my own. I prefer tapered hooks as I mostly use tubes. An old timer once told me a larger hook (#2) means fewer missed strikes when vertical jigging. It could be my imagination but that theory is accurate at least for me. Smaller hooks seem to work well with less hang ups on cast and retrieve as the bites are usually more aggressive. If the fish seem finicky I will go to a #8 and a smaller tube or a 1" Gdaddy minnow. I consider a factory sharp hook to be dull and always sharpen my hooks. Just my two cents worth with change left over .
