New on my bucket list is crappie fishing with minnows.I always use plastics with jigs,cranks and beetle spins with good success,but suddenly have a hankering to try minnows.
We have a bait shop not far from a nice crappie lake,they sell minnows,but I'm really wanting to catch my own to fish with.Our state law holds us to a minimum of minnows if trapped,if bought,a receipt must be on person.
My question is,the minnows at the bait shops are not the same as the wild minnows,I'm sure some are creek chub minnows,is there that much of a difference to a crappie ?I don't mind buying,but the DIY guy inside me says catch my own,does anybody catch their own here on the forum?

I catch my own minnows. I use a 4 and 5 foot cast net and I also use this type minnow trap.
