I have had success casting cranks. Bandits in 200 series and rebel minnow have been successful for me. Also although not crankbaits try rooster tails and joe flys , never not caught some while casting them both from boat and shore. for the cranks summer seems to be best for me right around dark or when i am night fishing try darker colors.

I cast small cranks during the spawn with excellent results. I use them to cover a lot of water quickly for determining exactly where the fish are. Then I go to a jig and cork.

Two of biggest crappie I ever caught were on a crankbait while I was fishing for bass. The other two were on a spinnerbait the same day.

I did not weigh them before I filleted them, but I had 2 lbs of meat when I was done.

I asked a guy in Walmart in Tennessee what he used for big Crappie. Without hesitation he said "DT16 and white 1/2oz spinnerbait" . He caught them working ledges when BAss fishing. A little time on the water and pay attention and I think you can find a pattern that will work for you.

I too like to cast a variety of jigs, spinner baits and cranks. It helps me pass the time and cover water while searching for new spots.
