    Default Longlining line twists

I am getting a lot of line twist when pulling 1/16oz jigs behind the boat at .8 - 1.0 mph. Does anyone use a swivel with longlining 1/16oz jigs or have another solution? My line is 8lb hi viz viscous line. Seems to want to twist a lot.

I don't know if it's causing your problem, but I think you are moving too fast. When I longline I run .03-.05.

First, I'd make sure my 'plastics' were on the jighead straight (if you're using plastics).
If not using plastics, but using weights on the line ... some weights, like the removable pinch on sinkers, can twist/turn.
If not using weights ... maybe the type/shape of your jighead is the culprit.

If none of the above ... and I don't think it's your speed ... then remove the jig & let out all the line on your reels and troll at that speed for several minutes, then reel the line in under tension, put the jigs back on & try again. If you still get line twist ... then what to tell you.

Jigs, by nature of their design, tend not to cause line twist. The line diameter could be causing your jigs to not act accordingly, and start to spin a bit. Suppler lines tend to twist less than stiff ones. Not sure if that is your problem or not.....just throwing it out there. Have you tried braid with a fluorocarbon or mono leader?

And do make sure your plastics are correctly installed on the jigs.

I longline at .8 - 2.3mph and never have a problem with line twist at all. Something else is causing the problem.
