    Default Strange looking crappie

Well, being a new guy to the Crappie.com community let me start by saying "hey ya'll" and letting you folks know how much I enjoy the info on this forum. I've crappie fished on and off since the late 80's and it amazes me how much I've learned since joining up. As mamaw used to say, "son, you'll never outgrow the opportunity to learn something new"...

I've been homebound for a couple weeks due to an ankle injury but the pretty weather this week enticed me to get outside. This morning I hobbled over to a local pond/park that I knew had a pier. My plan was to drag jigs around it as I have in the past and sore-lip a few crappie. Well, 2-mins after dropping a jig, this guy decided to test my ability. Turns out to be my personal best largemouth and it's extra special considering the gear used to land it. Rod is a 5ft Bass-Pro brand purchased in the early 90's. Reel is a Pflueger President 6920 with 6lb Mr. Crappie line. 1/16 jig with a beetle spin body. (only small plastic I had in black)

Only stayed 2-hrs and never saw a crappie. Caught 2 other dink largemouth. I consider every day spent fishing as a day to be thankful but some days are just extra special. I was blessed today for sure.

Be safe my fishing brothers and sisters..

Thanks for the supportive responses guys, it was a battle for sure. I just let the drag do the work. Made a few good runs and fortunately the small pier has no support poles or I would have lost it for sure. If someone could have filmed me landing it on the rocky bank with this monstrous plastic boot on my foot it would have been comical. Releasing one like that a watching it swim away is an awesome feeling.
