Default I want a crappie net like this

I think these guys run a bait company on Lake Altoona, Ga. They throw net for shad for live bait. This throw of their 12 foot throw net came up with something different.

Read the caption above the video for this take on it. Crappie were all released.

We, as crappie fishermen, have always known crappie as a schooling fish. That video will cause me to make some large changes in the way I look at those schools of unknown species on my electronics. I think I'll be spending more time in their neighborhood rather than going on to parts uncharted.

I read a lot of criticism of those guys in the video about them netting gamefish. I don't think that was their intent to begin with and they made it clear all crappie were released. I don't know of any place that gamefish can be kept after being inadvertently caught in a throw net.

That was just plain awesome!! I've never seen that many Crappie at one time ever.

I saw a guy throwing a cast net in the surf, south of Cocoa Beach when I was in my teens. He'd throw and retrieve, nothing , shake it out and move a little and repeat. I watched him for a while as I can't throw one to save my life. He threw once and cinched it down, pulled once, put the rope over his shoulder and walked ashore. Had about 40 Sheephead or something that looked like it to me, in the net. He shook em out on the beach and walked away. I walked down and asked him what he thought he was doing killing those fish? He said that he wasn't wasting anything, just look. I turned around to see all the retired folks walking the beach putting 3 or 4 in their T-shirt fronts and holding it up and heading for the house. 2 minutes later they were all spoken for. A very cool thing to see.
