Thank goodness for kill switches and PFDs. Mechanical accidents do happen. I watched the video several times and got madder each time when the other boaters ran right by the 2 guys in the water in a narrow channel. I've never seen a trophy so special it would make me drive right by another boater in trouble. Pitiful!!

Seriously though, that is some piece of footage and one all powerboaters should view as a reminder that things can go bad at any time.

It only takes one ugly incident to make one ALWAYS use their kill switch and wear a life jacket. I was thrown out of a 10' jon boat when I hit a submerged log luckily going fairly slow. The motor laid over and the tiller handle knocked me out of the left side of the boat. My fishing buddy scrambled back to grab the tiller and shut it down. I was so shaken I could not climb back into the boat so I paddled to shore not too far away and composed myself. When I moved back home I bought a 16' jon and the first thing I did was wire up a kill switch on it.

I am still amazed at the number of folks I have been with who NEVER hook up the lanyard for the kill switch.

Thankfully they were OK when it was all done. God was looking after them.

Admittedly, I sometimes forget to hook my lanyard. My cheap Walmart PFDs are close but the wife and I never wear them. I think I will invest in comfortable, good-quality PFDs to wear when when we get on board and start hooking my lanyard religiously. My boat won't do more than 36 and I think they must have been doing 60+, but that is an eye-opener for sure.

1st: Thank God they are okay. PFD's/kill switches always no matter how good a swimmer you think you are. Even a stumble while fishing a laydown and hitting your head can end "unwell".
