    How high above water surface to place flood light for dock fishing crappie? Will be 500w halogen

    Mike ... all of them I've seen on docks around here have been no more than 2ft above the surface. Some pointing straight down towards the water, others angled away from the dock. (all docks on our lakes are "floating" docks)

    All the lights I have ever used for fishing from a dock or a boat were either floating or underwater.
    I still have my incandescent floating light, but it eats car batteries pretty quickly. My buddy built an LED underwater light in a plastic tube.
