A Thanksgiving Day

On Thanksgiving Day in South Viet Nam in 1966 my unit was out chasing Charlie,
[viet cong] and choppers had brought in a Thanksgiving Dinner for us. Turkey and all the trimmings. As the choppers took off a big gust of wind flipped my plate of food upside down on the ground. At that moment I just sat down and stared at the plate laying there. One of the guys got up took the plate, and cleaned it best he could, and raked off some of his food onto my plate, and everyone of the guys got up and shared some of there food onto my plate. Not one word was spoken, and we went on to enjoying our Thanksgiving Dinner.
That was what Thanksgiving was all about giving thanks to God, friends and brothers. A Thanksgiving I'll never forget the rest of my life....amen
