    Default Generator smoke stack

I need to find a way to get the generator exhaust away from the boat. I have to put the generator in the rear of the boat, on the floor. (25hp lake, boat won't plane with much weight up on the casting deck) Exhaust gas sort of pools up in the bottom of the boat where the breeze can't blow it away.

So, I'm thinking of just running a pipe up maybe 12'. Trouble is how do I keep from burning myself on the pipe? Anyone have a way of insulating the pipe effectively? I considered just running it over the side into the water, but those valves for marine generators aren't cheap.

Look on Jeggs.com. Find you some header wrap. Asbestosis insulation for headers and exhaust pipes.

Howl, might investigate getting muffler shop to make you a pipe that woul fit your set up and weld a flange at the base where you coul install a larger pipe over it to act as a heat shield. Drill a bunch of holes in it so air could circulate to help cool it.

'preciate the responses, y'all. This is what I'm using the generator for:

I'd be a little concerned about back pressure with a stack that long and high.

Could be. I've sort of turned toward the idea of just running the extension over the side and down far enough that exhaust can't pool in the boat. I need to measure the temperature of the exhaust and then see if something like radiator hose with header wrap will be cost effective. It doesn't take much expense with this idea before it seems likely I would just get one of those lighter weight generators to stick up on the casting deck. I've spent a couple hundred on things I have less use for plenty of times.

I've got all winter to figure it out. This week will be the end of night stalking weather here and the bait shop dude is heading out of town.
