Sounds like someone's been fed a line. No way Duke would do that or be allowed to do that.

I went to check my Hyco property after Matthew and my neighbor shared a report from a public meeting in Roxboro.
Duke Energy was wanting public feedback concerning their emptying of local coal ash pits directly into Hyco and Mayo Lakes. The report went on to spell out Duke wanted total unfettered environmental monitoring of whatever they dumped. In essence, no controls of any sort.
I am still researching this as it sounded so unbelievable. I still have not been able to grasp this crazy, manned suicide of our natural environment.
If anyone has any info, please share. I will try to get a soft copy of this report and share it.
