Ima still waitin on that pictur of a basket full of Crappie with U in the pictur.. After all, this is Crappie.Com.
Today started out slow under an overcast sky and in water that had dropped a few degrees since last time I fished this body of water and was as smooth as glass. 40 fish later (five species), I pretty much confirmed my theory about lure color vs. lure design. Bright opaque chartreuse worked as did more subdued colors with metal flakes. A few fish bit curl tails, but the majority of fish were caught on different straight tail designs and even on one four flat sided grub that always does good.
An important discovery involved the use of a fine steel wire leader I attached directly to the jighead's line tie. Pickerel have been reducing my inventory of jigs and I don't like using steel leaders with clips. First fish caught was a sunny! Next was a bass and then a perch. Picks stayed away - probably knew there was no chance they would break my line and run off with my lure. I'll fish this rig tomorrow on another lake just to see what bites with the wire in place.

Thanks for the post. Nice catch.
BTW, all the lures in the post were my own creations. Nice not having to buy baits ever again (except for jigheads).
As for posting more pics of crappie, some of the lakes I fish were sucked dry by poachers or the crappie bite was off. Besides, the pics are mostly for my photo log.
As a side note: I happened to be hanging out in my basement workshop and noticed what bass anglers refer to as a French Fry Worm - a 3.5" straight, textured worm. Seeing as how I know pan fish attack straight tail grubs with four flat sides, why not cut one in two along its length, cut that 1.5" long and rig it on a 1/16 oz jighead ? The action is the same as the ones I pour and I got over 150 to play with. Will report how they do tomorrow. If they work, 150 become 600!

Nice catch.......your lures look good, pretty cool catching them on your own creations.
How does 150 worms cut in 2 come out to 600?
