Yes they'll work, a couple socks from academy will work better, much easier to get back in the boat and take up 1/10 the room. 14.99

I want to try trolling crankbaits but my outboard pushes my boat a little to fast. I am trolling at 2.5 to 2.9 and would like to troll about 1.8. Would pulling a 5 gal bucket work?

If you go the "sock" route, just make sure you get one that a size or two larger than what is recommended for the length of your boat.

Hello: Check out the troll-a-matic trolling plate, works great for me. Bought mine from Cabelas. Good Luck. O - R

Amish Outfitters have good strong trolling bags.
Another option (besides bags, trolling plates) is to change your prop pitch.
I have 2 drift socks from Academy. At some point I will replace them with Minn Kotas. The ones from academy don't have the floats on them so every time you come to a stop they sink or collapse. I had one slide onto the end of a stump, that was angled away from the boat, and I thought I was going to have to cut the harness and leave the sock. The Minn Kota ones are a lot thinner material and look like they open and stay open better.
If it's to deep to stand up and there is to much to drink, WEAR YOUR LIFE JACKET.
PS...If you get the ones from Academy, get or make a floating harness.
