    Default Fishing Unknown Water tomorrow

    Hello all,

I'm going crappie fishing tomorrow with my son - we are both excited but I have to temper expectations. I'll be fishing Lake Tholocco on Fort Rucker.

Don't own a boat yet, but I can rent one here. Although, we won't have the luxury of electronics or rod holders, we will be on the water!

Given I don't know the lake at all other than knowing where the dam is and the docks/piers are, my strategy is as follows.

The water temps are still high and I am guessing the fish are deep. The deepest part of the lake is about 25 feet. I think we will shoot the docks and piers first. Then, dependent on how that works out, thinking of trolling a couple of polls rigged with cranks or jigs in the deeper part of the lake. I know there is a lot man induced structure on the bottom - mostly Christmas trees.

Wish us beginners some luck tomorrow.

If no graphs, start off trolling! Then when ya find the fish change methods (if ya need to) and capitalize on em! Deeper-est part of the lake should be by the dam. That would be a great place to start. Although I was in a relatively shallow body of water yesterday. Water temp was 82 during the hottest part of the day. Which was cooler than I had expected. I caught my fish in 6-8fow. So if they aint deep, dont waste much time down there. Keep changing! You gonna get em man.....I can feel it!!!!

Didn't get skunked anyway but sure was tough. Windy, the rental boat battery died and had to get towed in. Still had a good time

Sounds to me like you shared a good bonding experience and the dead battery only adds to the bond. Good job. BTW- the fish are a bonus.
