I have a foam cushion that covers the receiver on my trailer hitch. A guy give it to me years ago and it's wore out. I don't know what it's called so I can't find one to order, It fits over the receiver and leave the ball exposed. It's a shin saver when your walking behind your truck!!! Has anyone ever seen one or know what they are called? I guess I could post a picture tomorrow.

Don't know about in other states, but in Penna, unless you are towing, boat. camper or whatever, it is illegal to leave the receiver/ball in the hitch all the time. Insurance companies had a lot to do with it. So you might want to check on your state laws, and save getting ticketed.

Receiver hitch law is not mentioned anywhere in the AAA reference tow reference list....

STATE of Illinois has the same law for pick up trucks only,(not for cars) i AM TOLD ITS APPLIES TO P/U 'S CAUSE their bumpers & hitch are so much higher than a cars bumper. Sorry about the cap's got a phone call while trying to type this added to fact when typing my left hand converts to 5 thumbs plus. OK after seeing cane's post I checked Illinois listing on AAA and they do not mention it but I know ILL law is still on books

AAA isn't always up on all the law changes. Best bet is to go on your state site to be sure.
What they do about hitches that are bolted on or welded on without receivers? My hitch is bolted on. No TN law that I can find about hitches. We have too many laws without this kinda crap. But, if the cops wants you to have a ticket, I am sure they can find something.
