    Default Plastics and shooting docks

Guys, I'm having issues with ruined plastics when shooting docks. I think it's from my fingers and all the pressure from loading up the rod. I use jokers most of the time. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

You should give more description....jig type and make, line weight, describe the rod. How exactly is the plastic damaged? Tearing out at the barb, colors separating, etc.?

Oh, that's what happens to plastic.....when it's all worn out from catching fish!
Maybe it's tearing when it skips? Try gluing the jig to the head.

Be sure and hold the jighead to shoot and get some heads that have 1 good single barb or the double barb kind. They will hold the plastic better so it doesn't slip.

I've always pinched the curve of the hook from behind, that way your fingers are always behind the hook all the time. Holding it by the jighead hasn't ever seemed that safe to me

Yeah .... don't hold the jig by the plastic body, hold it by the jighead ... hook pointing away from your hand.

Been doing it that way for nearly 15yrs and have yet to stick myself on release.

IF your plastics are tearing from anything other than holding them during shooting or catching multiple fish ... you need to consider using another brand. While there probably isn't another "Joker" shaped plastic body, the "Deuces Wild" Slab-a-nator jig body is close (it just has 2 prong tails, instead of 3 like the "Joker").

    They look like this :

It's a 2.5" long bait ... very soft, but very durable plastic body ... custom made & available from our Member Sponsor, Slabeye : http://www.crappie.com/crappie/-memb...-crappie-jigs/

But, given your description of finger pressure during loading of the rod ... I think you'll remedy your problem by holding onto the head of the jig, with the hook pointing away from your hand.

Put a little drop of Gorilla brand super glue gel on the collar and give it 60 seconds to dry.
