Do you know for sure there is a healthy population of catchable crappie in there
Just started fishing a new place. It is a rock quarry. Deepest spot is 17'. Mostly 12-15' with humps, a little structure left in water. Weed patches mostly associated with the small humps. Water varies from stained to clear. Have only found 1 kamikaze crappie. I troll bandits, throw jigs, and sliders. Still only 1 crappie. I don't think that in my 50 years of fishing I have had it so hard to find some crappie.

The best answer to that question is... there was. It also has some real healthy bass and walleye. The crappie may have learned their spot in the food chain. The water is about 1/2 mile wide and 1 mile long. Not a lot of water for a roaming school of crappie.
Rock quarry probably some milder water temps their ? You may be fishing under the fish?
Keep us posted CP. I know you'll figure it out.

Find a shady spot in the deeper waters and fish a super small jig on the bottom would be my try at them this time of year .....if there is thermocline in it stay above that depth .....our little ponds fish hug the bottom tight in the summer months and stay wherever it's deep and shady ......good luck on them

Have you tried minnows, if they're blacks they don't bite cranks that great. I would try to locate using minnows under a slip float so you can vary the depth easy. Once you locate and pattern them a little you can see what artificial baits and colors they like. Some rock quarry's have crystal clear water so your fishing line might also be something to consider.

You should probably scout it out with your sonar and locate some bait balls. Then slip bobber them to confirm is there are crappie in that spot or not. You can use a marabou jig or live bait, but I believe that's the surest way to determine what is available and what isn't.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Here is some more info. Water surface is 88°. I have not tried slip bobber and minnows due to the nearest live bait is a 45 mile drive. I have used an adjusta-bubble with a 2" grub at various depths. I will let you all know when I find the mother lode
The one crappie you caught out of there was it a black or white crappie?
