    Default Swivel and jig

Been trying the snelled hooks and so far I like them a lot. I tied a swivel and put the snell on the swivel. My question is if I swap to jigging on my outing is it ok just to leave the swivel on just replace the snell with a jig? I just got to thinking that would be a really quick way to swap out for a variety of fishing without taking several rigs.

I use DuoLock snaps an all my rigs. It's so much faster and easier to swap out hooks, jigs and gnats without having to take off the entire rig and replace. Them crappie have told me it dosnt make any difference.

What cray said. I use them more all the time and if I pay attention to make sure I haven't forgotten to close the snap. they do great. Nothing better when trolling either jigs or cranks. Haven't had one fail yet.

For jigs, I always attach them via a "snap hook" (jannsnetcraft.com). A size #2 fits the bill nicely. I don't see why they would not also work well with snells.

Ok concerning snap hooks and jigs. I always thought that you want your jig to lay in a horizontal position. If you connect a jig to a snap hook won't it be in more of a vertical position by just hanging down?

Most minnows do not travel in a perfectly horizontal position, rather nose up. And either a loop knot or a snap hook allows the body of the jig freer, more life-like movement in the water column. This movement creates the illusion of a minnow in distress. That's always how I've been taught anyway. And it has proven to be a very effective presentation for us, as you might want to check out by looking at our posts in the New England Forum below.
