Clinton, MO and Truman Lake hosted the Spike-It One Pole Ultimate Challenge on June 17, 18 where ninety one teams from twelve different states came to fish in one of the mpst popular events on the schedule. Teams were allowed to fish with one pole and artificial bait only on a lake covered with visible standing timber and a high population of crappie. New records and one of the most exciting finishes on tour this season left one of the best one pole fishing teams on top when it was settled.
Charlie “The Professor” Rogers and Kevin Rogers, Missouri, made a second day charge with a huge day two weight to hold off the reigning National Champions by .01 of a pound to win the Spike-It One Pole Ultimate Challenge on Truman Lake with a two day total of 19.16 pounds. The popular father/son team was fishing in 8-15 foot of water using the new 10’ Kevin Rogers Signature Series Ozark Rods with most fish being caught on Bobby Garland 3” Slab Slayer blue and white jigs just off of the bottom. Sponsored by the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council, Ozark Rods, Bobby Garland, Power Pole, Mercury, Bass Cat, and Midwest Marine, the Rogers’ took home a check for $7500.00 which included a $500.00 bonus, donated by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, for using E10 gasoline in their boat.
Second place with 19.15 pounds went to the reigning National Champions and the Road Runner/Tru Turn Hooks team of Kyle Schoenherr and Rodney Neuhaus, both from Illinois. Catching their fish in 3-8 foot of water, Schoenherr and Neuhaus used BnM Poles with Midsouth Tackle smoke/glow jigs and were also catching their fish just off the bottom. They took home a check for $3600.00 and are sponsored by Road Runner, Tru Turn Hooks, BnM Poles, Tite-Lok, MidSouth Tackle, Muddy Water Baits, Harvest Clean, Gamma, and Lowrance.
Defending Champions Barry Morrow and Chad Maupin, Missouri, finished third with 19.01 pounds. The team stated they were fishing in 8-12 foot of water , catching their fish just off the bottom with a combination of jigs that included Crappie Town Daddee Shad in black and pink. Morrow and Maupin are sponsored by Crappie Town, Stump Jumper, Everhart’s Sporting Goods, Off Shore Tackle, Perotti Rod Holders, Rocky Top, Gideon Hooks, Redneck Rubber, and Huckabee Rods and took home a check for $2700.00.
Fourth place with 18.18 pounds was the team of James Mitchell and Kerry King, Missouri. They received a check for $2200.00.
Noel Fernandez and Allen Morgan, Missouri, finished in fifth place with 17.83 pounds and received a check for $1800.00.
Big Crappie of the Tournament, 2.16 pounds, was caught on a Spike-It Junebug/Chartreuse jig by the team of Mark McClure and Don Brooks. They received a check for $1274.00 for the big crappie and a check for $1100.00 for finishing 10th in the tournament.
Top finishing Adult/Youth team went to Aaron and Dylan Clark, Iowa, with a total weight of 14.14 pounds. They won a new Minn Kota trolling motor and a $100.00 Everhart’s Sporting Goods gift card.
Male/Female division winners were the Green Machine team, Jack and Holly Linton. They weighed in 15.69 pounds and won a Navionics chip and a $100.00 Bass Pro Shops gift card.
