We launched around 7:15 am, with the air at 57 degrees and the water at 70. The air quickly rose to the upper 70's by 10 am. By 7:30 am we both had fish in the boat! So, we figured this was going to be a slug fest! Not quite. For the rest of the morning we got one fish here.....another one there.....could not find any concentrations of crappie in any of the cover areas that we previously had.

By noon, the wind had kicked up (thankfully) and we started to hit them pretty good. However, when we pulled off at 2 pm, we had tallied only 42 fish. We cast and drifted many different lure options; Roadrunners, straight tails and paddle tails. No one thing out-did the other, including color changes. We did catch (and, of course, released) many different species. The majority were crappie but we also caught yellow perch, bluegill, LM bass and we each got a nice rainbow trout to boot. All fish were taken on 2# test main lines.

I believe that if the wind had kicked in earlier in the day, we'd have had a much better showing for our efforts. But hey.....that's why they call it fishing, right!
